DJI’s next pocket-sized gimbal camera could be a much bigger step up than expected.
A fresh leak surrounding the rumoured Osmo Pocket 4P suggests DJI is preparing a more professional version of its compact creator camera. It will come complete with a variable aperture lens and dual cameras. Additionally, it will have advanced video tools usually reserved for mirrorless gear.
According to the leaked specs, the Osmo Pocket 4P – reportedly teased by DJI at Cannes as a “mini cinema camera” will feature a 1-inch 50MP main sensor paired with a 20mm equivalent lens. Unlike the standard Osmo Pocket 4, though, this version is said to include a variable aperture ranging from f/1.7 to f/2.8. As a result, this should give creators more control over depth of field and low-light shooting.
That alone would be a notable upgrade for such a small device. However, the bigger surprise is the addition of a second camera. The leak claims DJI is adding a 48MP telephoto sensor with a 70mm equivalent focal length. This enables 3x optical zoom and lossless zoom for tighter shots without sacrificing quality.
Video specs also sound significantly more ambitious this time around. The Osmo Pocket 4P is capable of 6K recording at 60fps, alongside 4K slow-motion video at 240fps. More importantly for serious creators, DJI will introduce a new D-Log2 colour profile with up to 17 stops of dynamic range – a feature DJI has already hinted at. If accurate, that would push the Pocket 4P much closer to professional cinema cameras. This is a big step beyond traditional vlogging gear.
The leak also points to a major price jump. The Osmo Pocket 4P will land somewhere between €749 and €799, compared to the regular Pocket 4’s reported €499 starting price. That suggests DJI sees this as a more premium option. This aims at filmmakers and advanced content creators rather than casual users.
Meanwhile, the standard Osmo Pocket 4 will still remain the more affordable choice for everyday shooting. It will offer a 1-inch sensor and 4K/120fps recording without the extra pro-grade hardware.
As always with leaks, none of these details are officially confirmed yet. Still, with multiple reports now pointing to the same features, and DJI already teasing a “mini cinema” direction, the Osmo Pocket 4P is shaping up to be one of the company’s most ambitious compact cameras yet.
