The PS5 and PS5 Pro are phenomenal new-gen consoles that deliver a top-end 4K gaming experience with plenty of exclusive titles under their belts – but with such massive game files, onboard storage fills up way too quickly.

The good news is that it’s possible to upgrade your PS5 with a new speedy M.2 SSD, and Very is offering the top-end 1TB Samsung 990 Pro with Heatsink for just £95.99, a discount of £26.50 compared to its regular £122.49 price tag.

With a healthy discount on this 1TB M.2 SSD with heatsink, it’s the perfect time to invest and upgrade your PS5 or PS5 Pro.

You can go all-out and grab the 4TB version from Samsung directly if you need even more storage for games and app data, but that doesn’t benefit from the same Black Friday sale goodness as the smaller variant.

If you’re looking to install the M.2 SSD in your PS5, this is the variant you need; Samsung also sells a version of the 990 Pro without a heatsink for slightly cheaper (when not on discount, anyway!), but this will cause the component to overheat when installed in your PS5 – and it could even damage your system.

The best part? Sony has made it incredibly easy to upgrade the internal storage of your PS5 or PS5 Pro without in-depth technical knowledge.

The company has documentation talking you through every step, but in essence, you’re removing the cover panel, unscrewing a couple of screws and slotting the M.2 SSD into place. It took this writer only a couple of minutes to do, using only a Philips screwdriver.

It’s a much better alternative to external HDDs you can plug into the console’s USB-A or USB-C ports, as they can’t quite keep up with the new-gen load times made possible by the M.2 SSD’s incredibly fast read/write speeds.

You can still use the older HDDs – and you might be tempted, given how cheap these can be – but these are primarily used to run older, less demanding PS4 titles and for storing PS5 games you might want to play at some point – though you’ll need to transfer them back to internal storage when you do eventually find yourself in the mood.

Upgrading the internal storage means you don’t need to faff around with data transfers; just download the game and boot it up. It’s a simple, no-compromise way to seriously boost the storage of your console, and one we’d wholeheartedly recommend – especially for the more dedicated gamers among us with massive libraries.

And, with a healthy discount on the 990 Pro for Black Friday, there has never been a better time to invest. You’ll thank us later.
