The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is facing major backlash after a viral video surfaced showing professors and faculty nodding along while a student speaker delivered an unhinged, profanity-laced attack on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and President Donald Trump’s administration during a commencement ceremony.
The video, originally posted to Instagram in June by the speaker herself, Chinese-American student Jamie Han, has exploded across social media in recent days, sparking outrage from everyday Americans.
In the clip, Han spends the first portion of her speech delivering typical graduation pleasantries. But as she nears the end, the tone shifts dramatically. She launches into a tirade.
Han accused ICE agents of being on a “psychotic power trip” and “terrorizing” families, even calling on them to “go touch grass” and “find something less embarrassing and pathetic to do” than enforcing U.S. immigration law.
Instead of being met with silence or condemnation, her remarks were met with applause, and worse, several professors on stage can be seen nodding in approval.
Han: “After all, the entirety of communication as a science, as an art, as a fundamental of society is inextricably rooted in change-making, ceiling-shattering, and trailblazing—in a way that increasingly weaponizes ignorance and misinformation at a time when education, free speech, and democracy itself are being threatened by the very institutions that claim to value them, and in a country that not only refuses to protect but actively persecutes, scapegoats, and villainizes the indisputable backbone of immigrants who make America what it is.
Which, as a first-generation immigrant myself, and as a now-citizen who has the privilege of not having to fear for my life every second of the day, and as a communication major—of all things—preaching up here about the importance of using your education and using your voice… Excuse my language, but to that I say: F*** ICE, and f*** the Trump administration.
To them, I say: go touch grass. Get a hobby. Find something—anything—less embarrassing and pathetic to do with your life than going around on a psychotic power trip, terrorizing and tearing apart families of hardworking, law-abiding, tax-paying folks who want nothing more than to live their lives and put food on the table to feed their children the same way you do.
I think on that—well, I really wasn’t planning to mention that—but the more I ran through this speech, the more I realized how tone-deaf and hypocritical it would have been for me to give an entire speech about speaking up only to not speak up.”
According to her LinkedIn account, Jamie Han is now working in Creative Film Marketing at Walt Disney Studios, contributing to projects under Disney, Marvel, and Lucasfilm, companies known for pushing woke politics into mainstream entertainment.
