As many of us are heading abroad this summer, avoiding those pesky and expensive roaming charges is a must.
One of the best VPNs, NordVPN, has designed an eSIM that prevents you from being charged for using the internet while you’re abroad and keeps you safe from any harmful websites.
But how does Saily work and how much does it cost? Can a Saily eSIM be used in conjunction with your existing phone plan?
We explain everything you need to know about Saily below and put together guides on how to set up an eSIM on iPhone and on Android to help get you started.
What is Saily?
Saily is an eSIM that’s designed for travelling abroad. With numerous data plans that are available in over 200 destinations worldwide, Saily can be used as a much cheaper alternative to your usual SIM which may charge you roaming fees for using 4G or 5G abroad.
Naturally as it’s part of the NordVPN family, Saily is also fitted with multiple security features to keep you safe while you’re roaming abroad. Firstly, much like NordVPN, Saily allows you to change your device’s virtual location, which means you can access your home content while abroad and browse more privately. At the time of writing, you can choose from over 115 virtual locations.
Saily also blocks malicious sites and, when enabled by you through the accompanying app, adverts too. This means you can limit online trackers, enabling you to browse faster and save mobile data.

Is the Saily app legit?
In a word – yes, the Saily app and eSIM is a completely legitimate way to ensure you stay connected while travelling abroad and avoid roaming fees from your usual mobile provider.
How does the Saily app work?
While you can set up your Saily eSIM manually, it is much easier to use the Saily iOS or Android app. Simply order your desired eSIM data plan, then download the Saily app and follow the instructions on-screen. Your plan will then activate automatically once you’ve arrived at the destination.
Don’t worry about unwanted charges, as the eSIM will simply not work anywhere other than its intended country or destination.

Can I use Saily in the UK?
Yes, you can use Saily in the UK, as long as your phone is compatible with eSIMs. Like most of the other Saily data plans, you can choose from 1GB to unlimited data for up to 30 days.
All plans have a 30-day activation period, so make sure you don’t buy your eSIM too far in advance of your trip.
Does Saily give you a phone number?
No, all of Saily’s eSIM plans are data-only and don’t support telephony services. Not only does this mean you won’t get a new phone number but you also won’t be able to send text messages or make regular phone calls with a Saily eSIM.
You can, however, use services like WhatsApp and iMessage with your eSIM, simply by verifying your usual phone number or Apple ID. From then on, you’ll be able to communicate via the eSIM’s mobile network.
How much does a Saily eSIM cost?
There are a few different Saily eSIM plans to choose from, with the exact specifications of each plan depending on the destination. Most plans offer a choice from 1GB up to unlimited data for anywhere from 7 to 30 days. However, some destinations like Colombia, Costa Rica and Armenia only offer a maximum of 10GB for up to 30 days.
Speaking of destinations, you can either get an eSIM for a specific country or an entire region such as Europe, the Caribbean Islands and North America, with the latter naturally sporting a higher starting price.

Saily has also recently launched its Ultra plan, which is a rolling eSIM plan that costs $59.99 a month. Included with the Ultra plan is 30GB of data that works in over 110 destinations, alongside the security tools found in other Saily plans.
Saily has also teased that airport lounge access and fast-rack service in airports is coming soon as a perk to the eSIM, although we don’t know when this will be available.
