For the first time in over 20 years, Halo is coming to PlayStation.

Microsoft has revealed that Halo: Campaign Evolved – a “faithful yet modernised” remake of Combat Evolved – will launch in 2026 for PC, Xbox Series X/S and, as a first for the series, PS5.

The game is being completely rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, so it’s not just a fresh coat of paint. The remake promises 4K visuals, refined controls, two-player splitscreen, and four-player online co-op, along with three new missions, more weapons, new vehicles, and reworked enemy encounters.

The game will also be available day one on Game Pass, so there is some benefit to picking to play on an Xbox Series X rather than a PS5.

Executive producer Damon Conn said they wanted to go back to where it all started. Kicking things off with the first campaign gives newcomers a proper intro and sets the groundwork for whatever’s next.

The original game follows the Master Chief and the AI companion Cortana as they crash-land on the mysterious ringworld Halo, uncovering its secrets while battling the alien Covenant and parasitic Flood.

Fans can expect a few new surprises. Campaign Evolved lets players wield nine additional weapons from across the franchise, including the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, and Needle Rifle. You can even hijack vehicles and drive a Covenant Wraith tank in the campaign mode.

It seems that a lot has been learnt a lot from doing Combat Evolved Anniversary. So now, wayfinding’s a lot clearer, Guilty Spark has new lines to help you out, and there’s fresh dialogue to add some depth. There are new pacing, navigation, and storytelling improvements, particularly in tricky levels like The Library, to help enrich the experience.

Executive producer Damon Conn added that they wanted Halo to feel more welcoming, without losing what made it special in the first place.
