Star Citizen has released a new update that focuses in on one of gaming’s more unusual niches – the Trucking phenomenon. Games such as Euro Truck Simulator and American Truck Simulator have long been popular with gamers looking for an escape from stressful gameplay simply by ‘hauling’ virtual cargo from one location to the next.
Over a decade ago space sim Elite Dangerous quickly attracted a subset of players keen to do the same thing, only on a galactic level, transporting interstellar cargo from one system to another.
Now, Star Citizen – a game that has been in Alpha development for well over a decade and has many dedicated fans, has introduced its new Cargo Empires update which includes a new contract system for Space Trucking. The new update provides haulage contracts that will task players to transport and deliver huge volumes of cargo to system-wide distribution centers.
“Cargo hauling and supply logistics offer the perfect counterbalance to the more action-filled professions in the ‘verse. There’s a serenity and a sense of purpose traveling through space with a full load of cargo and pile of credits waiting for your arrival,” said Star Citizen Creative Director Chris Roberts, “As we prepare for the dangers of the Pyro system, mastering both combat and non-combat professions will be key to ensuring that players can help keep humanity well supplied and ready for the challenges ahead.”

With money to be made by uncovering profitable runs, the Cargo Empires update will provide a new in-game income stream for those who would rather shy away from the excitement of space combat, allowing them to see the Star Citizen universe from a more peaceful perspective.
As well as the overhaul to the cargo system the new update also includes a new purpose-built racing ship – the Sabre Peregrine for those who like to partake in the races that take place on the fringe of lawful space.
The Cargo Empires update is now live and can be downloaded by updating Star Citizen from the launcher.
