It’s probably a safe assumption that not all board meetings in the gaming industry in the last 18 months have been blessed with good ideas. Much kudos to whoever came up with this one though during the brainstorming session for the game adaption of the horror movie A Quiet Place – The Road Ahead.

If you aren’t familiar with the big screen version Earth has been invaded by some form of unknown monster that hunt by sound. Basically, cough and you are dead. Step on a twig? Same. Crying baby? Best not to think about it. It’s a great premise for classic horror and therefore solid material to bring to a game, but how could the terror ever translate?

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead wants you to turn on your mic and keep your mouth shut

By making the game listen to you that’s how. A Quiet Place – The Road Ahead has just announced it is to have Microphone Noise Detection – an optional feature that will have the creatures detecting every sound in your environment and making you pay very dearly.

You might finally get killed for a ping notification on Discord, or your sister’s Uber arriving. Unlucky.

To coincide with the announcement we have a new live-action trailer showing you just how jump-scary things are going to be when the survival horror game launches for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on 17 October 2024.

Capturing the frantic terror, unnerving atmosphere, and gripping human drama that made the franchise famous, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is designed for fans of the films, horror games, and story-driven adventures alike.

The devs say of the sound detection feature will: “Amplify the terror of A Quiet Place like never before with the optional “Microphone Noise Detection” feature. By activating your microphone, the game’s deadly creatures can detect every sound you make, bringing the horror right into your room.”

This is going to be fun. Let’s hope the cat doesn’t meow and good Luck streaming this one annoying YouTubers.
