Shokz unveiled the successors to its OpenFit headphones with the OpenFit 2, made up of the OpenFit 2 and OpenFit 2+.

While we haven’t reviewed the Shokz OpenFit 2 just yet, we have reviewed the OpenFit 2+ and gave the open-ear headphones a solid four-star rating.

If you’re debating between the OpenFit 2 series but aren’t sure which will suit you best, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve highlighted the differences between the Shokz OpenFit 2 and 2+, to help decide between the two.

We’ve also put together a guide on how bone conduction headphones work too.

The OpenFit 2+ cost more

Although the OpenFit 2 headphones are the cheapest pair of the series, there’s just £10 / $20 separating them from the OpenFit 2+.

While the OpenFit 2+ will set you back £179 / $199.95, the OpenFit 2 are just £169 / $179.95.

Shokz OpenFit 2 Plus supports Dolby Audio

A reason to opt for the Shokz OpenFit 2+ is because they support Dolby Audio. Much like the OpenDots One, Shokz promises that the inclusion of Dolby Audio helps create a “rich, expansive soundstage” that’s a more immersive, spatial audio experience.

Otherwise, both the OpenFit 2 and 2+ are fitted with DualBoost technology, which Shokz says is an industry first. With two speakers and an extra large low frequency unit, Shokz promises the OpenFit 2 series offers deep bass alongside “crystal clear mids and highs”.

While we found the OpenFit 2+ struggled to deliver the crispness Shokz promises, we still concluded they are “one of the nicest-sounding open-earbuds”.

Shokz OpenFit 2 Plus offers wireless charging

The OpenFit 2 Plus’ case not only offers up to 48-hours of listening time, but it also benefits from wireless charging support too. The case is compatible with all Qi-certified wireless chargers and should take approximately three hours to top up.

While you’re unlikely to rely solely on wireless charging to keep your earbuds charged, this is undoubtedly a useful addition that’s good to have in a pinch.

Although the OpenFit 2 doesn’t support wireless charging, it does offer other benefits. Like the OpenFit 2+, a speedy ten minute charge delivers two hours of listening time, perfect if you’re about to do a workout but have forgotten to charge the buds up.

Shokz OpenFit 2 Plus comes in Grey

Another of the key differences between the OpenFit 2 and 2+ is the colour options. While both are available in a sleek black design, they differ with their respective second offering. The OpenFit 2 is also available in a Beige colour while the OpenFit 2 Plus comes with a Space Grey finish.

Both offer AI-powered call quality

Both the OpenFit 2 and 2+ have a total of four beamforming microphones (two in each earbud) which are powered by advanced noise cancelling technology and AI algorithms. Shokz promises these technologies help “filter out most of the environmental noise” while you’re on a call.

While we found the OpenFit 2+ are better suited for handling calls than the OpenFit, it comes with the caveat of avoiding busy environments.

Early Verdict

The key differences between the Shokz OpenFit 2 and 2+ that you need to know are that the 2+ support Dolby Audio and come with a wireless charging case. Otherwise, the OpenFit 2 series share the same specs.

Whether these differences mean it’s worth spending slightly more on the OpenFit 2+ is down to your personal preference. We’ll update this versus once we’ve reviewed the OpenFit 2.
