Motorola Edge 60 vs Edge 60 Pro: What’s the difference?

Motorola recently announced three new additions to its premium Edge family, including the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion, Motorola Edge 60 and Motorola Edge 60 Pro. Read on to learn how the latter two compare. 

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro leads the new line-up with its high-end design, super bright display and huge battery life, despite maintaining a mid-range price. The Motorola Edge 60 sits a rung below it, carrying the same camera array and a strikingly similar design. However, there are a few differences worth noting between these two smartphones.

Price 

The Motorola Edge 60 starts at £379.99 and comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. 

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro, meanwhile, starts at £599.99 and includes the same 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. This makes the Pro model the more expensive of the two by $/£220. 

The Motorola Edge 60 includes a MicroSD card slot 

When it comes to design, the Motorola Edge 60 and Edge 60 Pro look very similar. Both phones share very similar dimensions – aside from the standard model being slighter slimmer and weighing 7g less than the Pro – and both offer the same IP protection and MIL-STD-810H durability certification to protect them against different environmental stresses. 

Both phones also feature 6.7-inch pOLED displays with HDR10+ support, 120Hz refresh rates and up to 4500 nits of brightness, though the Pro has the additional benefit of Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection. 

The phones do come in several different Pantone colors, with the Edge 60 available in Gibraltar Sea and Shamrock, while the Edge 60 Pro comes in Shadow, Dazzling Blue and Sparkling Grape. 

One major bonus to the Edge 60 is the inclusion of a MicroSD slot. This allows you to expand the storage with a memory card rather than relying on the built-in memory or investing in cloud storage. 

The Edge 60 Pro features Group Shot 

The Motorola Edge 60 and Edge 60 Pro share identical camera arrays, including a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide sensor and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and OIS. Meanwhile, omni-directional all-pixel focus delivers 32x more focusing pixels compared to traditional phase-detection autofocus. 

Both phones also include 50-megapixel selfie cameras and allow users to shoot video in 4K at up to 30fps on both the front and back cameras, or 1080p at up to 240fps on the back camera. 

Both phones also take advantage of the Photo Enhancement Engine, which works alongside Moto AI to finetune details, cut down on noise and optimise the image quality. They’re also the only candybar phones to carry Pantone Validated color and Pantone SkinTone Validated certifications, and include some handy AI features. 

One feature that is available on the Edge 60 Pro and not the Edge 60 is Group Shot. This is essentially Motorola’s answer to the Google Pixel’s Best Take, combining multiple frames to ensure everyone in the group photo looks their best. 

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro runs on a different chipset 

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro also runs on a different chipset to the Edge 60, with the Pro model equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Extreme. Motorola claims this chipset offers on-device AI performance, smooth gameplay and high-resolution videos. 

The Edge 60, meanwhile, runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 platform, a chipset that sits below the 8350 Extreme but should nevertheless offer smooth performance and support multitasking. 

While we didn’t get a proper chance to put the performance to the test during our hands-on time with the phones, we did find apps to be quick to load and switching between tasks to be swift and pain-free across both models. 

However, you’ll definitely want to bookmark this page and come back later when we’ve gotten the chance to put the phones through benchmarking tests and take them out into the real world for a more in-depth look at their performance. 

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro packs a bigger battery 

When it comes to battery life the Motorola Edge 60 Pro has a clear edge thanks to its large 6000 mAh battery and support for 90W fast charging and 15W wireless charging. 

The Edge 60, on the other hand, is equipped with a 5200 mAh and offers 68W fast charging, but no wireless charging. That said, the smaller battery might not be far behind the Edge 60’s 6000 mAh one – though, again, you’ll have to wait for our full review to find out how they matched up in our tests. 

Early verdict

The Motorola Edge 60 might be cheaper and include a MicroSD card slot, but the Pro model is set to be a stronger performer thanks to its better chipset, larger battery and faster charging.
