Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has said that together she and President Trump can “make the west great again.”
Meloni met with Trump at the White House on Thursday, where the two held a bilateral lunch followed by private talks.
Addressing reporters in the Oval Office afterward, Meloni expressed her ambition to help revive the strength and legacy of Western civilization.
“I know that when I speak about [the] West mainly, I don’t speak about a geographical space,” she explained.
“I speak about the civilization, and I want to make that civilization stronger.”
”So I think even if we have some problems, okay, between the two shores of the Atlantic, it is the time that we try to sit down and find solutions.”
Meloni added that Trump had accepted “an official visit to Rome in the near future, and consider a possibility in that location to meet also with Europe.”
“The goal for me is to make the West great again, and I think we can do it together,” she said.
“We can,” Trump responded.

Trump also praised Meloni for her work as Italy’s leader, saying she is doing a “fantastic job” pushing back against the open borders policies of the European union.
“I would say that she has taken Europe by storm and highly respected,” Trump said.
“Everybody loves her and respects her, and I can’t say that about many people,” he continued.
“And she’s become a friend, and we really have a great relationship between Italy and ourselves.”

Since becoming Italy’s leader in 2022, Meloni has become one of the few European leaders espousing genuine conservative values.
As well as staunch opposition to mass immigration and globalism, Meloni is also an advocate for socially conservative positions, including opposition to abortion, euthanasia, and the importance of motherhood.
However, she has sought to implement her reforms within the European Union while also supporting efforts to fund the Ukrainian war effort against the Russian invasion.
