I reviewed the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and it’s finally easy to recommend at this low price

The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold remains one of the more exciting foldable phones, even more so with this Black Friday deal.

It’s been several years now since foldable phones first hit the market from companies like Samsung and Huawei, but Google has gone in a more software-focused direction, and we like it very much.

The Pixel Fold is a foldable phone I’d recommend to the average consumer, particularly at the reduced rate of £999

That’s down from £1268, and much cheaper than the £1749 you’d have to pay for the newer (and very similar) Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

The great thing about foldable phones is that you get two displays. The smaller outer screen is perfect for messaging and taking phone calls, while the larger inner panel is there for getting stuck into a Netflix series on the train or getting some proper work done.

Inside the Pixel 9 Fold, you’ll find the Google Tensor G4 chip. While this isn’t the most powerful silicon around, it is very much focused on providing nippy AI performance. Google has loaded this phone up with serious AI skills thanks to Gemini, and performance remains very good.

Similar to Apple’s approach with the A-series chip, Google’s Tensor G4 offers great integration between hardware and software. It also helps ensure software updates are plentiful and arrive in a timely fashion. Alongside the chip is 16GB RAM, enough for smooth multitasking. There’s 512GB of storage too, ideal for storing some offline videos and games to enjoy on that inner screen.

There’s a good-sized 4650 mAh battery, which should get you to the end of the day without much panic. There is both wireless and fast charging to get you back to 100% in quick time, too.

This is a Pixel, so of course, the camera system is stacked. There are three cameras on the back, one on the inside and another on the outer display. There’s a wide selection of focal lengths to choose from, giving you great versatility.

The phone is unlocked for use on any network, so you won’t be held back by a specific carrier if you do decide to pick one up.

As unique as its predecessor was, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a welcome reboot that is so much nicer to use for extended periods. Both screens are (mostly) great, the build is thinner and lighter and everything just feels more high-end.

  • The updated design really works

  • Great software

  • Strong main camera

  • Very bright screens

  • Camera system inferior to Pixel 9 Pro

  • Display crease is very visible

  • Slow charging
