Grado’s latest headphones are gorgeous – and very expensive

Grado has announced a fresh set of headphones for its Signature line with the launch of the Signature S750 and it’s giving premium from every angle.

The S750 is the third model in the range and builds upon the elegance of the HP100SE and S950. It comes with a new 50mm driver, redesigned cushioning, aluminium build, and detachable cables and represents a set that’s clearly pushing for the best headphones crown.

In a press release, Grado says the S2 driver uses a carbon fibre and paper composite diaphragm with a lightweight copper-plated aluminium voice coil, the kind of combo that delivers natural audio with definition and dynamic range. The headphones, which are handmade in Brooklyn, are crafted from aluminium, bringing the headphones to an incredible 460 grams.

The headphones also come with the new Grado B cushion, which is standard on the S750 but also available separately. This shortens the gap between ear and driver, narrows the inner opening, and adds eight slits to help airflow, all in service of a wider stage and better ergonomics. The headband has also been tweaked to improve wearing fatigue – although slightly narrower than its predecessors, the headband now boasts 50% more padding.

You’ll also get a softer Signature Gold braided cable in the box, a 6.35mm plug at the source end, and 4-pin mini XLR connectors on the cups so they’re compatible with future 4-pin XLR and 4.4mm cables.

Grado is once again proving that it’s willing to listen to innovate with this announcement. Detail-forward wired sets such as the Grado SR325x have built a following for lively mids and quick transients, so a pricier Signature piece that improves on the likes of the HP100SE and S950 feels like a smart move.

The Grado S750 will be available for £1,695 / $1,695 from November.
