A Republican strategist tried to mock the former President Donald Trump for his weight during an appearance on CNN on Tuesday, but it didn’t end well for him.
Trump Allegedly ‘Not Eating’
GOP strategist Kevin Madden and Democratic strategist Ashley Allison, both of whom are CNN commentators, appeared on host Jake Tapper’s show on Tuesday to discuss claims made by Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) in her new memoir “Oath And Honor.”
In the book, Cheney alleges that she angrily confronted Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) about visiting Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida after the January 6 riots at the Capitol, according to Mediaite.
“Mar-a-Lago? What the hell, Kevin?” she claims to have asked him. McCarthy allegedly replied, “They’re really worried.’ Trump’s not eating, so they asked me to come see him.”
CNN Responds
During his show on Tuesday, Tapper responded to this by saying that the claim is surprising since Trump is a man of “healthy appetites.”
“I don’t mean that disparagingly,” he was quick to add.
Later in the segment, Madden gave his thoughts on the Trump “not eating” claim.
“They’re rationalizing their support for Trump,” Madden said. “Can I just say that if the Republican Party wants somebody who is not eating because he can’t accept the results of an election – like, this is the leader of the free world that has nuclear codes – that’s who they want? Ok.”
“He doesn’t look like he wasn’t eating,” he continued.
Unfortunately for Madden, this was too much, even for CNN.
“No body-shaming,” Allison chided him, with Tapper immediately echoing, “No body-shaming.”
It should be noted that McCarthy has denied that this exchange about Trump “not eating” ever took place.
“For Cheney, first it was Trump Derangement Syndrome, and now apparently it’s also McCarthy Derangement Syndrome,” his spokesperson told CNN.
Trump also issued a denial through his spokesperson Steven Cheung, who said that Cheney’s book belongs “in the fiction section of the bookstore.”
“These are nothing more than completely fabricated stories,” he added.

Trump Touts His Health
Liberals have frequently attacked Trump, 77, for his weight over the years. Perhaps in an attempt to combat this, Trump released a letter from his doctor earlier this month confirming that he is actually in “excellent” health.
“I am pleased to report that President Trump’s overall health is excellent. His physical exams were well within the normal range and his cognitive exams were exceptional,” read the letter signed by Dr. Bruce Aronwald of Morristown, NJ.
“Cardiovascular studies are all normal and cancer screening tests are all negative. President Trump has reduced his weight through an improved diet and continued daily physical activity, while maintaining a rigorous schedule,” Aronwald continued, adding that he has carried out “several comprehensive examinations” of Trump since he left office, with the most recent taking place on September 13.
While first running for president back in 2016, Trump released a letter signed by his then-physician, Dr. Harold Bornstein, who stated that Trump would be “the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency,” according to The New York Post.
While it’s ridiculous that CNN is continuing to treat Cheney’s book as if it is filled with undisputed facts, we’re glad to see that even a liberal host like Tapper was quick to check Madden for fat-shaming Trump. What do you think about all of this? Let us know in the comments section.
