Representative Clay Higgins (R-LA) believes there may have been “over 200” undercover FBI agents posing as supporters of Donald Trump inside the Capitol before the riot on January 6th, 2021.

Higgins, who serves on the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security, made the startling claim in an interview with Newsmax on Wednesday.

“The FBI was not only involved in the actions on January 6 from within, they had, I suspect, over 200 agents embedded within the crowd, including agents or as they would call, human assets inside the Capitol dressed as Trump supporters before the doors were opened,” he asserted.

It has been well-established that the FBI had informants embedded with groups prior to the event that would lead to hundreds of people being jailed for their actions that day.

Additionally, the Political Insider reported in September on a former assistant director at the FBI testifying that the bureau lost track of the number of paid informants that they had infiltrating the crowd of protesters.

Higgins posted a clip of his appearance on Newsmax with the caption, “J6 was an FBI op.”

How Many FBI Agents Were There On January 6th?

Rep. Higgins also pointed to the informants the FBI allegedly had embedded with groups before the Capitol riot.

The New York Times reported that the FBI had as many as eight informants embedded with the “Proud Boys” group in the months leading up to the Capitol riot.

This comes along with another report that the FBI had a well-placed informant within the Oath Keepers.

“When you track the text threads and the communications within those groups and find the origins of suggestions of potential violence or an active occupation of the Capitol on January 6, you’ll find that those messages were led by members of the groups that ended up to be the FBI agents that had infiltrated the group,” Higgins claimed.

“So the FBI’s involvement was deep, not just on J6, but on the days and weeks and months prior,” he continued.

Steven D’Antuono, formerly in charge of the bureau’s Washington field office, told the House Judiciary Committee back in September that he was aware of informants with his own office attending a rally on January 6th.

Remarkably, the FBI had to conduct a poll in order to track down how many “Confidential Human Sources” or CHSs had taken part in events that day, an action that seems to suggest that they had lost track.

D’Antuono would only allege that “a handful” of informants were discovered, well below the number put forth by Higgins.

Did FBI Agents Instigate Capitol Riot?

Having FBI agents embedded in groups prior to January 6th and allegedly in the Capitol that day would suggest to some that the assets may have instigated events to some degree.

And while that remains to be definitively proven, it certainly suggests a level of incompetence that these agents weren’t able to notify their superiors and stop the protest from getting out of hand.

FBI Director Christopher Wray has repeatedly denied the former accusation, but refused to say if the FBI had any informants in the crowd at the Capitol.

“If you’re asking whether the violence at the Capitol on January 6 was part of some operation orchestrated by FBI sources and/or agents… the answer is an emphatic no,” Wray told Higgins during a recent hearing.

Steven Sund, the chief of the Capitol Police at the time of the January 6th riot, has suggested that the FBI had at least 18 undercover agents in the crowd along with an estimated 20 from the Department of Homeland Security.

But Higgins’ statement multiplies even that number by quite a bit.

Video footage released by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) shows several clips in which protesters were so peaceful on January 6th that Capitol police cleared a path for those walking through the halls.

Sund also contends law enforcement officials were aware of the potential of a riot on January 6th before it happened and covered that fact up afterward.

“This didn’t have to happen,” he insisted. “Everything appears to be a cover-up.”

Higgins’ statement suggests it was a set-up.
