Once a marginal figure, Geert Wilders is today the leader of largest and most consequential party.

Wilders appears to be heading to his second consecutive electoral victory in the Netherlands.

Geert Wilders took his PVV (Freedom Party) to a spectacular victory in the last elections in the Netherlands, which took place in November 2023.

The Dutch political system being what it is, the present ruling coalition was only negotiated in May 2024 and took office in July 2024.

In the meantime, the Dutch political establishment enacted the unacceptable ‘firewall’ tactics against Wilders – other parties only accepted a coalition with the PVV if the right-wing blonde firebrand was not the Prime Minister.

During its short term, the government led by former intel chief Dick Schoof failed to address the issues that led the PVV to his victory – especially the scourge of unchecked mass migration.

So, Wilders left the coalition, and a snap vote was called.

The Netherlands Will Hold Snap Elections in Late October, After Geert Wilders’ PVV Left Coalition Over Immigration Policies.

Wilders (left) did not see eye-to-eye with PM Dick Schoof.

Now, about two months before the new vote, the Party for Freedom (PVV) is again topping the opinion polls, in the wake of yet another tragic murder where a Dutch teenage girl was killed by an illegal migrant.

The Gazette reported:

“The PVV, founded and led by right-wing lawmaker Geert Wilders, is leading public opinion surveys, with the next parliamentary election due in October, according to Dutch media.

If the election were held today, PVV candidates would be projected to win 33 seats out of the 150-seat legislature, a significant advantage over the left-wing GroenLinks-PvdA party’s projected 26 seats.”

“Anti-immigration sentiment has flared up following the murder of a 17-year-old girl named Lisa in Amsterdam, a national scandal that has fomented anxiety and anger in a country known for its generous immigration policies.

Lisa, who was reportedly cycling home following a night out, was stabbed to death by a 22-year-old asylum-seeker. She was allegedly stabbed multiple times in the neck as she attempted to call the authorities. Emergency responders arrived too late, and she was found dead.

Police say that the same asylum-seeker is believed to have attacked and sexually assaulted a separate woman in Amsterdam just five days prior.”
