EU TARIFFS: The silent plunder against the U.S.

The European Union (EU) is up in arms after the recent tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, but their outrage reeks of pure hypocrisy. For years, the European bloc has bled the U.S. dry with abusive levies, all while preaching the gospel of «free trade.»

Now, with Trump striking back, the Brussels bureaucrats are tearing their hair out. According to recent data, the EU applies average tariffs of 0.9% on U.S. products, but in key sectors like automobiles, they climb to 10%, plus a 20% VAT that punishes American companies even further. In contrast, the U.S. taxes European goods at a modest 1.4% on average. Who’s the protectionist here?

On April 2nd, Trump announced reciprocal tariffs of 20% on the EU, plus a global 10% that took effect on April 5th, and a 25% on foreign vehicles. The White House’s excuse: to balance «unfair» trade that has devastated American industry. And he’s right.

The EU, with its trade deficit of billions against the U.S., has lived off the backs of Yankee workers while its leaders play the victim. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, called the measure «immensely consequential,» but she conveniently forgets that her policies have been a silent plunder.

The EU’s response was swift. Since April 1st, they’ve imposed tariffs worth 4.5 billion euros on American products like bourbon and Harley-Davidson, with plans to add another 18 billion euros by mid-month.

France, ever the drama queen, demanded «immediate retaliation.» But it’s all just theater. For decades, the EU has shielded its market with barriers while preaching openness. Trump, on the other hand, acts with clarity: «The EU was created to screw the U.S.»

Enter the left, that gang of moralists who cheer for Brussels while demonizing Trump. Where were their critiques when the EU was squeezing the U.S.? Silent as mice, because they love the fairy tale of a «progressive» Europe.

Now that Trump gives them a taste of their own medicine, their double standards are pathetic: they defend a system that strangles American workers but clutch their pearls when someone says «enough.» They should look in the mirror. The EU isn’t a victim—it’s a leech, and the left, with its complicit silence, deserves the ridicule.

Trump doesn’t negotiate with hypocrites, and that’s what the U.S. needs.
