Hackers have stolen personal information, including names and government ID’s, as well as partial payment details from some Discord users after a third-party customer-service provider was breached.

Discord has confirmed that a “limited number of users” who interacted with its customer service or trust and safety teams have been compromised, according to a report from Bleeping Computer.

Discord says it revoked access to its ticketing system when the breach was discovered and a “leading computer forensics” team is currently investigating how it happed. The company also disclosed that the hackers demanded an undisclosed amount for the data, which included names, Discord usernames, emails, limited billing information, IP addresses, messages with customer service, and limited corporate data.

A “small number of government-ID images” from users who had appealed an age determination was also compromised. However, full card numbers, CVV codes, passwords, and general Discord activity are safe.

So, what next?

Discord is in the process of contacting those affected. In a statement, the company confirmed that it’ll reach out to impacted users by email – not phone – via the address [email protected].

The company has also stressed users take care in the meantime. “Looking ahead, we recommend impacted users stay alert when receiving messages or other communication that may seem suspicious,” Discord says in a press release. “We have service agents on hand to answer questions and provide additional support. We take our responsibility to protect your personal data seriously and understand the inconvenience and concern this may cause.”
