AI startup Anthropic announced on Tuesday that its Claude AI Artifacts feature will now be freely available to all of its users.

Claude is an AI chatbot, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Its Artifacts feature means that Claude can share content with the user in a separate window to the right of the conversation you are having.

What are Claude AI Artifacts?

There are a few situations when Claude may create an Artifact, such as when the content generated is longer than 15 lines, or when it is something the user may want to edit, build upon or refer back to later.

Artifacts can take the form of markdown and plain text documents, snippets of code, HTML websites, scalable vector graphics, and flowcharts.

Anthropic gave some real-world examples of Artifacts including prototype visualizations for designers and insight forecasts for sales teams.

Other chatbots could also likely generate this for you. But what makes Artifacts really stand out is the fact that you can edit and view these projects in real time – no copy and pasting into other programs to see if they work. Users can even ask Claude to edit the content; the chatbot will not forget the original version either, should they want to return to it.

Claude AI Artifacts were originally launched as a feature preview back in June. According to Anthropic, users have “created tens of millions of Artifacts” since then.

Artifacts is now available to anyone on Claude’s free, pro, and team plans, as well as the Android and iOS apps. Team users are able to share and collaborate with one another on Artifacts, while those on free and pro plans can publish them to the wider Claude community.

Anthropic most recently made news last week under different circumstances, when a group of authors brought a lawsuit against the firm for training Claude on pirated copies of their books.
