Around 50 thousand people stood in St. Peter’s square on a hot springtime day.
The faithful hoped that the second day of voting in the conclave would bring a resolution to the question: who will be the next Pope, the 276th occupant of St. Peter’s throne.
The two morning votes both brought no results, but the first vote after lunch brought an explosion of joy as the bells rang in the Vatican.
This is a developing story, and we will update it as the information becomes available.
