Apple has slipped its new M5 chip into its latest MacBook Pro and iPad Pro models, introducing a major silicon upgrade simultaneously. The launch signals Apple’s leap in improved AI performance, core efficiency, and thermal control.

Same look, better performance

Visually, nothing’s changed. It has the same sleek design, but inside, Apple has packed in some serious upgrades.

Built on third-generation 3-nanometre technology, the chip features an upgraded CPU and 10-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator in every core. This delivers up to 3.5x better AI performance and up to 45% better graphics compared to the M4 in previous MacBook Pro and iPad Pro models.

Meanwhile, the new iPad Pro, available in 11-inch and 13-inch versions, comes with up to 16GB of faster memory and 1TB of storage (or 12GB RAM and 256GB storage for the base model). It’s also the first to include Apple’s custom C1X cellular modem and N1 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips for improved connectivity.

Cooler, quieter, and smarter

The new chip also manages heat better. Thanks to improved thermal efficiency, Apple claims that the new MacBook Pro stays cooler and quieter during heavy use. On the other hand, the use of the chipset in the iPad Pro allows for longer battery life during tasks such as video editing or gaming.
