Adobe Max London once again took place in April this year, giving the company a space to showcase all the new updates coming to Photoshop, Illustrator, Express and more.
We’ve gathered all the major announcements from the event in this guide to help you catch up with everything you missed at this year’s big Adobe conference.
Adobe Firefly
This wouldn’t be a 2025 announcement without touching on AI and, for Adobe, this comes in the form of its family of AI models, Adobe Firefly.
At Adobe Max, the company unveiled its Firefly Image Model 4, a generated AI model designed to generate lifelike images in up to 2K resolution and offer more control over structure, style, camera angles and zooms than before. The company announced that the Image Model 4, Image Model 4 Ultra (for more detailed and complex image generations) and the Firefly Video Model which generates 1080p video clips from text prompts and images will all be available to generate commercially-safe content in the Firefly app.
The app also includes models from partners, including Google Cloud and Open AI, with other partners to join in the coming months. According to Adobe, creators will be able to switch between models with full transparency of which model is being used at every step.
Many of these AI tools are also integrated in Adobe’s other creative apps, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Express, while the new Firefly Boards feature entering public beta is an AI-first destination for moodboarding and exploring concepts.
Content Credentials will also automatically be attached to AI-generated content to indicate whether that piece was created with an Adobe Firefly model or a partner model. Furthermore, creators can attach their own Content Credentials via the free Content Credentials web application, as well as verify their identity through LinkedIn and make their AI preferences known.
Adobe Photoshop
Updates coming to Photoshop include the Firefly-powered Composition Reference in the Text to Image feature, allowing users to generate images with the same structures and visual arrangements as their reference images.
Meanwhile, Select Details makes it faster and easier to select hair, facial features and clothing, Adjust Colours simplifies the steps to adjust the hue, saturation and lightness of an image and the redesigned Actions panel offers smarter workflow suggestions.
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Illustrator has also seen upgrades to its Firefly image generation tools with Generative Shape Fill and Text to Pattern arriving to help designers customise concepts in their own style.
Menu access is also more responsive, while some of the app’s most popular effects are up to five times faster.
Adobe Lightroom
The new Select Landscape feature in Lightroom and Lightroom Classic allows photographers to automatically detect common landscape elements, such as plants and water, and create masks for them.
These apps are also gaining more sharing capabilities, along with upgrades to Quick Actions that should make it easier to precisely retouch group snaps.
Adobe InDesign
InDesign has received a Firefly boost with Generative Fill able to transform vector graphics into artwork from text prompts. Math Expressions help users place complex mathematical notions in layouts, and it’s now easier to convert PDFs into InDesign files.
Adobe Premiere Pro
Generative Extend by Adobe FireFly is now generally available for Premiere Pro users, offering support for 4K and vertical video when generating content.
Meanwhile, Caption Translation translates captions in 27 languages, while Media Intelligence assists editors in tracking down specific clips from large piles of footage.
Adobe Fresco
Fresco has been updated with a new “created without generative AI tag”, allowing users to prove that their work was created without Firefly or a partner image model by attaching this note to the image’s Content Credentials during the exporting process.
Adobe Express
Finally, Adobe Express has received some major updates when it comes to video, including the Clip Maker tool to convert long videos into shorter, social media-length clips, Dynamic Animation to animate still images with a click and Enhance Speech to remove background noise and distractions from video footage.
The app has also received new generative AI tools, including Generate Video to create custom b-roll and background footage and Generate Similar to create different variations of a reference image and generate commercially-safe asset collections in a flash.
