Just one month after the previous price rise, Twitch’s subscription costs are going up again but this time it’ll impact mobile users.

It was in July when the live-streaming service announced that its web subscriptions were to be increased to $5.99 from the previous $4.99 a month.

Now, the company has tweeted that its Tier 1 sub and gift sub prices on the mobile app will be hiking too.

“Starting October 1, we’re increasing new Tier 1 sub and gift sub prices on the mobile app in over 40 countries. You can bring your questions to Patch Notes today, August 21 at 12pm PT.

“We are notifying streamers and subscribers in these countries via email.”

The US is one of the countries that will be affected, with publisher Dextero receiving an email about the change. The email reads:

“Subscriptions are an important way that your viewers support your channel. In order to keep pace with rising costs and local currency fluctuations, we’re updating Tier 1 subscription and gift sub prices on the Twitch iOS and Android mobile apps in over 40 countries.

“Starting October 1, the increased price for new subs is 7.99 USD in your country. We are notifying your subscribers starting in October, and their subs will renew at the new price starting November 1.

“Here are answers to a few common questions about the price change:

  • Existing mobile subscriptions in most countries will automatically renew at the new price – no action needed from your subscribers.
  • We are not changing the price of Tier 2 or Tier 3 subs in any country at this time.
  • You will continue to receive the same net revenue share on subs and gift subs, so this price increase means you will receive more per subscription.”

Twitch subscribers aren’t happy with about price rise

When questioned by a user named Ali who replied to the announcement with “another increase???” the team responded with: “Hey! This is the same price increase that occurred on desktop previously, just extending to mobile, as opposed to a new price increase.”

Understandably, the price change has ruffled the feathers of both streamers and watchers.

One tweeter who goes by ‘IamTrevorMay’ said: “No, not the “same increase.” It’s a $2 hike, not the $1 increase made on desktop. I understand that these decisions are not you’re to make, support team, but the least you could do is refrain from making dishonest comparisons.”

Others took the news as a ‘notice to cancel mobile subscriptions,’ with one person replying with “Excellent, let me cancel all my subs.”
