The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) has officially adopted the 1-800-MY-RESET number as the National Problem Gambling Helpline.
The number is now live and operational to receive calls, with it having been designed to be memorable and easily accessible for the public. It’s also the latest move in the NCPG’s ongoing modernization efforts.
Any calls to the 1-800-MY-RESET number will connect people to the National Problem Gambling Helpline Network which is a single point of access to 14 contact centers across the United States. These are staffed by trained professionals who meet internationally recognized helpline quality standards.
The number is entirely free and is available 24/7, while promising to be confidential and provide support and referrals to local resources.
“Problem gambling support should never be limited to a single moment or a single definition of harm,” said Derek Longmeier, President of the NCPG Board of Directors.
“1-800-MY-RESET reinforces that the National Problem Gambling Helpline is available at any stage—whether someone is worried about themselves, concerned about a family member, or simply looking for trusted guidance. Making the Helpline number easier to remember is a practical, meaningful step toward reducing barriers to care.”
National Council on Problem Gambling’s old number will still be in use
The previously used number or access points, including 1-800-522-4700, will still remain active. While the council said it is encouraging states and regulators to authorize and promote the new number, it explained that broader adoption and promotion will vary by jurisdiction due to state-level regulatory requirements and policies.
Speaking on why this is important, NCPG Executive Director Heather L. Maurer, MA, CAE said: “With gambling now more accessible than ever, the National Problem Gambling Helpline is a critical lifeline.
“Making the number easier to remember helps ensure people across the country can quickly connect with high-quality, confidential support when they need it.”
In September, the NCPG lost access to the 1-800-GAMBLER problem gambling hotline after a judge ruled that control of the number should return to the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ).
For the past three years, the NCPG had been paying $150,000 a year to run the hotline nationwide under a licensing agreement with the CCGNJ. That license, however, expired in May 2025.
For decades, the National Problem Gambling Helpline has played a key role in promoting responsible gambling across parimutuel betting, sports betting, and online casino communities.
Looking across to the remainder of the year, and next year, additional education and awareness efforts will be rolled out.
If you or someone you care about might be struggling with gambling, you’re not alone—and help is always available. The National Problem Gambling Helpline offers support without judgment, stigma, or shame. You can call 1-800-MY-RESET or visit www.1800myreset.org anytime.
