Introduction

The Shark FacialPro Glow promises to bring expert Korean skincare formulas and a “pro-level” face detox into the comfort of your own home. With an exfoliation attachment that’s designed to remove impurities from your pores and to boost hydration, plus a sculpting tool coined “DePuffi” that can run either hot or cold, the FacialPro Glow offers an indulgent, at-home facial experience.

But is the FacialPro Glow powerful enough to compete with professional-grade facials? We’ve put it to the test.

Design

  • Handheld design with changeable DePuffi and Exfoliation attachments
  • Clean and “gunk” tank on Exfoliation attachment
  • Interchangeable nozzles for extractions are easy to remove

There are three components to the FacialPro Glow: a power hub, a DePuffi attachment and an Exfoliation attachment. The DePuffi can be set to either heat or chill mode, and is used as a tool to respectively open pores and help to sculpt your face.

Exfoliation is arguably the most important of the two attachments, as it’s what you’ll use to actually perform the weekly facial. Made up of a spout for attaching nozzles, a clean tank and the wonderfully disgustingly titled “gunk” tank, Exfoliation removes surface-level impurities during its first round and then rehydrates the skin with serum during the second.

The tanks seal tightly to avoid water and ungodly gunk leaking out. While this is undoubtedly a good thing, this does mean the doors can be quite tough to open.

Otherwise all attachments, including the nozzles, can be housed in the travel case which usefully ships with the device. Also found within the case is a USB-C cable, cleaning brush and room to chuck in the other nozzles for safe-keeping.

Features

  • DePuffi attachment that can either warm or cool your skin
  • Nozzles for gentle or “normal” extraction, depending on your skin sensitivity
  • Includes a bottle of BHA and another bottle of Hyaluronic Acid

The FacialPro Glow is a true all-in-one device, thanks to its DePuffi and Exfoliation attachments. The DePuffi is especially versatile, as it can either heat or chill your skin, while your movements help massage and sculpt your face. In fact, although Shark says you should only perform a complete facial once a week, I would definitely recommend using the DePuffi on its chill setting more frequently, as it feels amazing and helps your face appear more sculpted.

Included with the FacialPro Glow are two pairs of nozzles which attach to the Exfoliation attachment: one for gentle exfoliation and another for “normal”. Then, within each pair is a wide-tip to deal with larger areas and a T-zone tip for more targeted exfoliating. It’s worth testing both pairs of nozzles to see which ones suit your face better, and especially if you have sensitive skin.

When you power on the FacialPro Glow, the Power Hub will automatically set to the highest level setting, which is indicated by the LED lights. You can, however, adjust this by pressing the Plus tactile button. Having said that, I found the maximum setting was perfectly fine and didn’t feel too overbearing.

With all FacialPro Glow kits, Shark usefully includes the skincare required: one bottle of Detox which is a BHA serum you lightly apply directly to your face before using the FacialPro Glow and a bottle of Infuse, a Hyaluronic Acid you squeeze into the Exfoliation attachment’s clean tank and use the device to apply to your face. Replacements of the two bottles can be ordered from Shark’s website and will set you back £39.99.

Finally, the FacialPro Glow has a clever self-clean mode. Simply connect the Exfoliation attachment, fill the clean tank with water and press and hold both the power and plus buttons simultaneously to start the 90-second cycle. While this is running, you can use the included cleaning brush to clean the nozzles.

Performance

  • Using the FacialPro Glow is easy, although it is a bit of a faff setting it up
  • Skin looks red immediately after use but clears up within a few hours
  • Noticeable improvement after two uses

To begin, you’re advised to open your pores by attaching the DePuffi tool and setting it to InstaHeat mode, which is done by pressing the power button again after switching the device on. This heats up quickly and, although it reaches a noticeable warm temperature, it never feels too hot during use.

Using the DePuffi is pretty straightforward, and will feel instantly familiar if you’ve used a gua sha or other sculpting tools before.

After an indulgent few minutes using the DePuffi, I then applied the Detox serum. While Shak warns that you might experience some tingling during and in the three minutes down-time required after application but fortunately I really didn’t notice anything.

Next, with the Exfoliation attachment connected to the Power Hub, and the clean tank filled with cool water, I then began the exfoliation process. The tool does take some getting used to at first, especially if you start off using the normal nozzle rather than gentle, as the suction is stronger than you’d expect. You’re supposed to apply the tool to your skin and draw it outwards, in strokes up to 5cm in length and you’ll know you’re doing it correctly as the tool will make a kiss sound.

I’ve had professional facials before, which focused on extraction and, perhaps unsurprisingly, found them way more uncomfortable than the FacialPro Glow. After three minutes, although I did notice my skin looked red and slightly blotchy, this wasn’t to the point where I would, say, avoid going out. My skin also didn’t feel too sensitive afterwards, either, which is another plus.

At this point, it’s time to visit the gunk tank which is a gross but undeniably intriguing collection of your skin’s built-up residue. Yes it’s objectively disgusting but it’s a perfect visual indicator of how well the tool has worked.

After rinsing off the leftover serum from my face, it’s then time to repeat the above steps but instead of filling the clean tank with water, you need to use the Hydrate serum. Once I finished here, I applied my normal, everyday moisturiser and then used the DePuffi on its cool setting.

Finishing off with the DePuffi felt amazing. Not only did it soothe my slightly red face, but as I’d just applied moisturiser, the tool glided across my skin brilliantly and felt effortless.

After the entire process, my skin felt unbelievably smooth and this lasted for the entire day. However, it also remained slightly red for the rest of the day too, so I would advise against using it on the day of an event.

The next day, my skin looked relatively dewy and had a decent glow to it, enough to warrant a few compliments from friends too.

Should you buy it?

Buy if you want a glow-boosting facial at home, without splurging each time

Considering just one professional facial can cost the price of the FacialPro Glow, if you are a skincare enthusiast but lack the budget, then this is a brilliant alternative.

Don’t buy if you would prefer to indulge yourself in a more professional spa setting

Part of the charm of getting a facial is to embrace the spa environment. If that’s a key aspect to your self-care routine, then an at-home alternative can only provide so much.

Final Thoughts

It’s easy to dismiss a device like the Shark FacialPro Glow, especially with its hefty price tag of £299.99. However, it’s undoubtedly a unique tool that allows you to keep your skin looking and feeling great, all in the comfort of your own. It’s a bit of luxury made easier.

Sure, it might not replace a professional-grade facial experience but it’s undoubtedly a more convenient option for those who can’t keep trekking to a salon every month.

How We Test

We thoroughly test every beauty tool that we review. We use testing to compare features properly and we use the tool as our main device over the review period. We’ll always tell you what we find and we never, ever, accept money to review a product.

FAQs

Can you use different serums and skincare instead of Shark Beauty’s own?

Shark says that using other brand’s skincare might not enable you to achieve decent enough results and could even damage your unit.

How do you charge the Power Hub?

The Power Hub is rechargeable via a USB-C port at the side of the hub. You must completely recharge the Hub before us.
