Introduction
Although red wine is best served at room temperature after being decanted, different wines deserve different temperatures, and it’s best if the first glass is the same as the last. That’s what the Solenco Life Precision Wine Cooler with Decanter does: it’s an individual wine chiller with a decanter that keeps your wine at the perfect temperature from first sip to the last.
It is simple to use, cheap to run and a neat and effective way to get your wine to the perfect temperature.
Design and Features
- Nice decanter with filter
- Easy to set a target temperature
The Solenco Life Precision Wine Cooler with Decanter is a simple device. It comes with a drip mat that you set the main device on, and holds the integrated glass decanter.

The decanter has a premium feel and features a fine filter to prevent sediment from the wine from entering your glass.

As this is just a standard glass decanter, how long you should leave wine in it to aerate will depend on the age of the wine, and typically ranges from under 30 minutes to a couple of hours.

Once the wine’s in place, you can turn the Solenco Life Precision Wine Cooler with Decanter on, and use the control panel to select the wine temperature that you want, between 5°C and 20°C.

The exact temperature will depend on the type of wine: lighter-bodied wines should be around 12-13°C, and fuller-bodied wines between 15-18°C.
Once on, the machine lights up blue to let you know that power is connected, and the screen lights up. At this point, there’s no cooling. To start cooling, tap the snowflake icon, and then use the control panel to select your target temperature.
The gentle fans spin up, and the cooling plate is activated at the bottom of the decanter holder, with the LED light turning red. As soon as the temperature is reached, the decanter emits a high-pitched beep and the light turns green. I could turn the light off, but there’s no way to disable the slightly annoying beep.

It’s just a matter of leaving the Solenco Life Precision Wine Cooler with Decanter turned on, and it will automatically maintain the set temperature.
There’s no air-sealed stopper for the decanter, so if you don’t finish the wine, you’ll need to pour it back into the bottle and use a stopper.
Performance
- Good temperature control
- Cheap to run
I decanted a bottle of pinotage, and set the Solenco Life Precision Wine Cooler with Decanter to 14°C, which is about a degree cooler than the ideal serving temperature. That’s to give a bit of headroom, and to allow for the wine to warm as it hits a glass.
As the wine was pre-chilled, it didn’t take long for the ideal temperature to be hit, and the Solenco Life Precision Wine Cooler with Decanter used just 0.4kWh of power over the hour. Running at a maximum of 60W, the most amount of power you could use in an hour is 0.6kWh.
With my running costs, that’s around 10.3p per hour to run, assuming a unit price of 27.03p per kWh.
As the decanter cools from the bottom, I gave my wine a gentle swirl before serving. I found it easy to pour, and the in-glass temperature was 15°C, which is about spot on. That temperature was consistent from the first to the last sip.

Should you buy it?
Buy if you want to serve red wine at the perfect temperature
The decanter allows for proper aeration, while the targeted temperature control ensures the perfect glass of red wine.
Don’t buy if you don’t drink a lot of red wine
If you mainly drink white wine, you won’t need the decanter, and this device won’t be much good for you.
Final Thoughts
A neat little tool, the Solenco Life Precision Wine Cooler with Decanter is a handy way to keep wine at the right temperature while you drink it. It’s easy to use, works well and is cheap to run. The only minor annoyance is the high-pitched beep when the temperature is reached.

FAQs
No, the spout doesn’t seal the wine, so you need to put anything you haven’t drunk back into the bottle.
